King of Checkers

Checkers looks simple until you meet an opponent that does not blunder. King of Checkers plays nine real rule styles, each one verified against the federation that governs it: American, International, Brazilian, Pool, Russian, Spanish, Italian, Turkish, and El Rey Efrain, a house original named after the man the game is dedicated to. Every style changes how the pieces move and which capture you are forced to take, so the same board plays like nine different games.

Seven difficulties, from Warm-Up to Unstoppable, and none of them cheat. The engine searches the position and plays the best move it finds. When it takes your piece it is because you left it there.

THE WORLD LEADERBOARD Points are earned, not accumulated. Every capture pays, every king you crown pays more, a long chain pays a bonus, and a win pays by how hard the opponent was and how fast you finished. The harder the level, the bigger the points: a win pays 25 against Warm-Up and 500 against Unstoppable. Your score is checked on our side against the moves you actually played.

THE THRONES One champion holds each style. Pass their all-time points and you earn the right to challenge, then it is settled in a live best of three. The overall crown, the King of Checkers, is decided on the leaderboard itself.

PLAY YOUR FRIENDS Share a six letter code, or challenge anyone on the board. Talk at the table while you play. Table talk is filtered before it posts, and you can report or block anyone in two taps.

THE DAILY TRAP A new losing position every day, down a piece or squeezed flat, that a search has proved is still winnable. Find the win, or find out why there wasn't one.

THE POST-MORTEM After a loss, the engine walks the game back and shows you the move where it turned, with the line you missed.

OFFLINE The whole game against the machine works with no connection at all, including your saved rulesets and your archive. Results are held and sent when you are back.

THE FULL UNLOCK, ONE PAYMENT Seven more rule styles, the Master, Grandmaster and Unstoppable difficulties, and House Rules, which lets you bend any style into your own and save it as a card of its own. Forced capture, majority rule, flying kings, backward captures, the lot. One payment, no subscription, nothing recurring.

IMMORTAL Sold on its own, per style. At six pieces or fewer the machine stops searching and starts reading a solved table, which means it plays the endgame perfectly. Not well. Perfectly. If the position is a win it will win it, and if it is a draw you will never break it.

The harder the opponent, the bigger the reward. You may never beat Immortal, but every piece you take pays, every king you crown pays, and holding it to a draw pays 750 points. Nobody else on the board can earn that from one game.
